Berveni dates as far bask as 1216, and it was an estate of the Gutkeled family. The county’s only railroad border crossing point with Hungary is in Berveni. The Ecedea swamp which is near the locality was an important source of income for the locals. Numerous traditional crafts related to resources specific to the swamp area (fishing, hunting, wattling) disappeared when in 1889 the swamp was drained. The fact that many traditional crafts disappeared was quite a drama in the locality’s life.

Nowadays, agriculture has become the villagers’ most important source of income. The Berlapi agricultural association carries out successfully both plant cultivation and animal breeding activities.
